That's really interesting and thanks for posting chattysmum. We have long been aware of the potency of grass and how it can alter horses' behaviour for the worse. With spring here already we need to be aware that some horses react badly to the sugar content, especially high in the early hours of the morning. If your horse suddenly morphs into a less than his normal enjoyable self, do consider that he might be having too much grass.

Chatty and I are really enjoying the sunshine. Boxed to Hemstead Forest today (another trot route) and found some lovely hills to walk, trot and canter up. I still plan on going to the beach, Thurs or Friday, must clip Chatty before the endurance training at the weekend and next week I am going to do the Linton trot route which takes in Bonfleur so I am hoping to find a couple of jumps to have a go at. My husband has asked me to go back into work to implement ISO 9002 quality control. Goodness knows how I will fit it in, hope he is only expecting me in part time!

Oh Liz, I am so sorry you cant have your wish, it must be so frustrating for you. I have an aunt in a similar position, and she gets her horsey fix now by going to the races - she loves it. I think you are probably too far away, but next week, there is a two day event at Somerley Park, just two miles down the road from me, and where Splodge came from. Its a lovely venue, all the top riders will be there. I am hoping to pop along, you would be welcome to join me ..... Best wishes, Sarah. x

Chatty is now clipped out, other than for her legs. I hadn't intended to clip quite so much but my lines were so wobbly I just carried on. She was such a star. I even managed to clip her head and ears which is a first for both of us. Ready now for a gallop on the beach tomorrow and the endurance training on Sunday. Bring it on ............

I bet Chatty looks gorgeous, and will be much more comfortable with less fluff.
Hope you have a wonderful time this weekend.
Best wishes, Sarah. x

Finally got to the beach yesterday. Beautiful weather but of course that meant lots of dogs and children, some even playing in the water which is most weird for March. Chatty was very well behaved although slightly wary of the soft shifting sand near the waters edge and I don't think she had ever seen waves before. We had some nice canters and trotted a few circles and popped over the smaller break waters before walking back through the edge of the surf. Amazing weather for this time of year, not a breath of wind. I was the only rider on the beach so Chatty got a lot of fuss from people and someone even took our photo! I took my camera with me and have emailed the photos to Avril who, hopefully, will upload a couple, if not I may try and do this myself (looks a bit complicated).

What a wonderful outing chattysmum - I cant wait to see the pictures.
You always have such wonderful adventures with Chatty, I am very envious, I wish I was a bit more adventurous .... a quiet hack on the Forest is enough excitement for me at the moment.
Best wishes, Sarah. x

Had an amazing day with Chatty today. She was excited when she saw the trailer today but very well behaved. 100 miles to the venue then half an hour chill before we started the endurance ride. She was very forward going but very well behaved - just enjoying herself. We are soooo fit, I was amazed. Lots of hills about but we trotted for miles, throwing in the odd short canter when the ground was suitable, only walking when we climbed up to the top of the Downs which was very steep and went on for about 2.5 k. We cantered across the top and then had to walk down the other side. Finally, we had our first ever gallop which was soooo exhilarating, round two sides of a field. We were in the company of three other horses but Chatty never felt like she was racing - in fact she swerved into the field at one point to avoid getting clods of earth in her face. We finished off the ride at a walk to cool off. Wonderful.
Clare and I gained a friend for this ride as "Annie" did not want to ride the route on her own as it was her first time. Talking on the way round I discovered that the cob she was riding was a Breton Cob and that she has two Normandy Cobs, like Chatty, at home. Her and her husband drive them. She said her Breton had bloodlines traced back to the war when they were used, as a pair, to pull the guns in battle. She was very sweet and kept insisting on talking to Chatty in french. She apparently talks to all her french bred horses in french. I had absolutely no idea what she was saying but it sounded good! She thought Chatty very pretty and a good stamp of Normandy Cob.
Tomorrow afternoon Bea, the McTimoney lady is coming to check her so we won't be able to do very much until Thursday.

What a lovely post and what a lovely horse! You are so lucky to have found Avril and Chatty, but I expect there was a lot more to it than luck. I loved reading how you intorduced Chatty to Le trec, taking things slowly one step at a time. It's paid off big time, you've got a solid partnership and were obviously ready for your first gallop! Please keep us posted with progress and pics. By the way, I'm sure I remember reading somewhere that Bea does MSC horses too.
