I hope the in hand work goes well, and he feels more comfortable soon. Lucky will have his second round of cortisone injections on Tuesday, and his first visit from the physio on Friday. I am supposed to be lunging every other day, but am doing some walking out on the Forest in hand to stop him getting too bored and fed up. He really enjoyed our walk yesterday, I took Daisy Dog too, and Simon rode Freddie - a lovely outing. Best wishes, Sarah. xx

Well, the physio said Cass was going to find it difficult. Since he bit me twice yesterday just walking over poles, I think we can assume he is!

Ouch, a very definite way of letting you know what he thinks! I better watch out for that on Friday when its Lucky's turn to see the physio. Tomorrow its back to the vet for more cortisone injections. My farrier was here today, and he was shocked at how much muscle tone he has lost in the last 6 weeks. Hope Cassie and Lucky can start to feel much better soon. Best wishes, Sarah. xx

Thanks em, and if you could send some extra healing vibes for Meg too - she has been very poorly for a week or more now with raging tonsilitis, sinusitis etc and when I dragged her back to the GP today, he marched her straight off for a blood test for Glandular Fever. Just what she needs 2 days before her A level results ..... what a couple of weeks its been! Best wishes, Sarah. xx

Cassie had a review by physio & vet last week. I can start riding and just continue the pole work once or twice a week. I rode (with great trepidation) out in walk on Saturday and Sunday, and Cass demonstrated that he has not forgotton his training. All was well with dogs, quad bike, combine and bicycles. we even passed 2 fields of cows without incident. However, he is not really sound in trot and I don't know what the long term prospects are. The physio wants to come back after Christmas, and Pet Plan have asked for full clinical history from every vet that has treated him in the time I have owned him. Thats a stalling tactic if ever there was. It will take a while to assemble that.

I am sorry to learn that you are having such a confusing time over Cassie's health and with extra stress thrown in by the insurance company. Lots of best wishes for getting to the bottom of the problem. On a better note, great that he walked happily past all those obstacles. Please do keep us updated Angela

Great to hear you have ridden out on Cassie again, and he was so good. I hope he continues to make good progress.
I am still working Lucky in hand, and the physio is due back next week.
Please keep us updated with your progress.

Well, I haven't lost a dress size! Cassie is getting sounder by the minute, and I really feel I am riding him rather than trundling round the school, looking at my watch. We did a couple of very short canters yesterday - not pretty, but I am so pleased. Cassie can be quite nervy, especially going out. I have started him on a supplement called Cool, Calm and Collected from Equifeast. He is just into week 4 of a 5 week loading period but it has worked fantastically for me. He has not changed his character but the reaction is not as extreme. I feel very safe compared to previously. I would recommend it. They do several variants, I am using the "Bombproof" one. the only thing is that I have to feed it in Alfa to get him to eat it. I've never fed him Alfa before, but it does not seem to have had any adverse effect. You only feed it 5 days a week.

Just to update anyone who is interested; Cassie is very happy out in his field, but as the ground conditions have deteriorated, he is less sound, and more often than not we end up just walking round the school. I have had the vet out today to review the situation. He is not sound in front, tending to shuffle a bit. He would be ok for some hacking, if we could. We have never been an ideal partnership and we are both finding hacking very difficult as our confidence in each other has plummeted. My vet has advised, that given the above, she feels that it would be better for both of us to stop putting ourselves in very stressful situations and think about retiring Cassie to ground work only or maybe I could find someone more confident to hack him out a couple of times a week. I feel I have done my absolute utmost for Cassie and at my age (51) I would like to enjoy riding, rather than dread it.
Sooo.... If anyone has a nice, safe, unexciting, weight carrying cob that they would like to put out on loan, to live at the same yard as Cass, in Gloucestershire, please get in touch.
On a positive note, after much arguing by my vet, PetPlan have agreed to accept my claim. Hooray!
