I visited Cassie at Avril's yesterday. The weather was lovely, really too hot for sitting on the M25! I gave him a mane and tail wash so now he looks like a Silvikrin advert, albeit probably with a bit of mud by now. Cass is reported doing very well and will shortly be winding up his training there. I'm getting a bit nervous now but I am sure all will be fine. i have a week in Tenerife to chill out before then. Its going to take a bit for me to wind up to being a horse owner again - good thing its summer and he will be out!

Hi Everybody, just to let you know, that after just over 5 months, I have fetched Cassie home today. He seems very chilled and I have turned him out overnight, so I am hoping he remains so for me to ride tomorrow. The time has seemed to go so slowly but now it doesn't seem a moment since we we dropping him off! He is sparkly clean as he had a bath yesterday, and, due to a close encounter with a grass-free paddock, had another one this morning before I arrived! His tail has been plaited up all day to try and keep the worst off and he now sports a "Diana Ross" style tail-do. Friends are so generous - I had earmarked an empty paddock that the previous occupant had left the poos all piled in a corner, meaning to clear them tomorrow. When I arrived tonight my friend had bullied the farmer into bringing out the tractor and removing said pile before I arrived. How lovely.
I'll let you all know how we go on.
Jane

Hi everybody, just to let you know that Cassie is doing fine. I have hacked out twice with a friend walking with me, and today I rode in the indoor school. We have a long way to go, but we've got no time scales. He seems very pleased to be back. There is a new horse 2 stables down from him. He saw it tonight for the first time and it was love at first sight! I have failed to attach an image here, so I'll send them to Facebook instead

Hello everyone, just a quick update. After a lot of procrastinating when I sort of lunged on Wednesday, did a very short ride with a friend walking on Thursday and did not ride on Friday (shopping!), I ahd planned to just walk out with someone else on their horse today. last night Cassie was plastered so I kept him in, went up at about 8am to brush him, put on his rug and turn him out for a couple of hours first. I'm glad I hadn't planned to ride him straight out of the stable because he was quite lively, just leading him out. It started raining here about 7am and was torrential by the time I went back at 10am, so we went shopping to Countrywide! The afternoon was fine, and I have to admit that, to give me the best possible chance, as it were, I moved his electric fence at lunchtime in the hope that he would be stuffed with grass by tea time. My friend just helped me mount (not one of my best skills I'm afraid) and saw me out of the yard. Cass was lovely, if a little slow (turned out he wanted a wee!) and so chilled he tripped over his own feet 3 times. His biggest problem is his Mother! Cass has changed shape whilst at Avrils and his saddle isn't fitting brilliantly, but whilst I'm only doing so little, I'll leave it in case he changes shape again.

Hi Karen, I will certainly post more news if I have any. Meanwhile, more of the same. I have not extended my rides but we are getting more confident in what we are doing. I've been petrified to touch the reins, and have been accepting whatever speed he offers. Yesterday, for the first time, when i asked him to trot he set off at a fair pace, and when I asked him to steady up a bit, he just went down a gear very nicely. Still having cow problems, and i think i need to address this on line. We think we need to persaude our farmer to get some black and white cows. We have black only on our farm. Cassie has an injury on his hock, done sometime over the weekend, when I didn't bring him in & "inspect" him. I don't know how he has done it as his paddock is totally electric tape, and he is turned out alone. I think he may have had an argy bargey with the horse in the next paddock & got kicked, its the only thing I can think of.
