Well, this makes a change but I had a lovely carriage ride up a mountain in Poland and the horses were in immaculate condition and very fit. The owners can only do one return trip per day as it is, without doubt, hard work, and they are licenced. If they break the strict rules set by the national park authority, the licence is withdrawn and their livelihood lost. The horses have a good break at the carriage park at the end of their climb with water and nosebags stuffed with hay provided. Here is a pic of one team. Believe me, they are very big horses! Visitors have to walk the last, long uphill mile (a countryman's mile, I would say!) and this is what is at the end of the trek I also went here - unmistakable, isn't it? Very much a place of remembrance.
