I share Avrils view of September. When I lived on the mainland I think Autumn was probably my favourite season. Sadly, this week the characteristic rain and gales of the season have moved in ( although yesterday was pleasant). They will largely be here to stay now ( with odd days of respite) until end April 2013. Think I need a strategy !!!

This is my favourite time of year - fresh mornings, with dew on the long grass, beautiful sunny, warm days, still some evening daylight, and cool nights.
Blackberries are being picked, the lovely smell of an autumn bonfire, and the promise of frosty days to come and maybe some snow as an excuse to stay put and light the wood burner.
I love it. ;D
I am intrigued by your "strategy" - good luck with that.
Best wishes, Sarah. xx

Your lovely descriptions take me back Sarah Actually we are enjoying a few good days again, making horsey life easier again. I need some more good weather, as I have yet to powerwash my stables and need to leave the horses out overnight, whilst they dry out. This year I was beaten to it by the return of the swallows . They nest up in the roof area and usually produce two batches of fledgelings. This year is no exception. They are so cute. . They can now fly, but the parents are still feeding them and they pop in and out of the nest during the day and sleep there at night. I don't want to frighten them, so will just have to wait until they leave for Africa !!

Angela, I think your strategy should be like the swallows' - move south!

Ha Ha One of my strategies does indeed involve developing that possibility.!!! An immediate one involves improving my organisation so that I can make the most of any good days that come along

Let's just hope it is an exceptionally bad year. I live in the normally sunny south east, it rained so hard on Monday it set off all the car alarms in the carpark. Horses were miserable and grumpy. Why do they stand in the middle of the field when they have a perfectly good shelter to use?
I also usually like September, but it was dark at 6am this morning and dark by 6pm this evening. Seriously unimpressed.
