I found the latest blog on developing trust really thought provoking esp as it gave such a good explanation of inconsistency. Applying it to myself I can see some mistakes I have unwittingly made, even at home, Avril's reply to a couple of enqiries about trust on facebook also very helpful. Think I need to pluck up courage to learn to long rein. Maybe that recognition will help me to chose my next course Angela ;D

Hi Angela,
I. too, found the latest blog really interesting (I must admit i am addicted to the blog)! You are right, the things you do unwittingly and think you are being consistent, but clearly not. It must be so confusing for the horse.
I must admit i have done the "getting off thing" with one particular horse i had. I must have read hundreds of books over the years, you name it, i have read it, dressage, jumping, schooling etc, etc, etc, but how many books are there which teach you to hack out properly. You can take your riding and road exam, (i know how to go round a round about correctly ha ha). I must have had thousands of lessons over the years, but nobody ever said to me "we will have a lesson on hacking, because until you understand the horses mind, and earn his trust and respect, you could be a positive danger out on the road"!!
Quite frankly, i have learned more on this forum and Avril's blog than i have learned elsewhere in the 40 years that i have had horses.
When i think back at some of the things i have done in the past, its a wonder my horses have'nt 'done a runner' when they saw me coming ha ha.
TC, Jane and Elda xx

I know what you mean Jane. Kelly Marks first caught my attention and her material has been most helpful. I then had assistance from a visiting natural horseman who sadly is no longer with us. It is very much Avril and team MSC taking me forward. Hope to meet you one day Angela x

What a moving blog. How very sad that so many horses must have this kind of start to their ridden lives I shall go on and re read the other associated blogs as it is all so helpful in developing understanding. Thank you for taking the time to put it up Avril
