Poor Lucky has got to go in to the vets next week for a full lameness workup! I have felt for some time that something was not quite right, but just didn't know what, and when I asked more knowledgeable people they either didn't know or thought I was imagining it. The vet thought at first it was a problem in his near fore, but then decided it could also be in his near hind ... and possibly his back! She thought it was going to be very hard to diagnose, and was guarded about his future for quiet hacks. So, I will be keeping all my bendy bits crossed for poor Lucky, and any positive/healing vibes would be very gratefully received. Sarah. xx

Dawn, thank you so much for those links, which I have skimmed through, but will read carefully when I have more time - I know it will be fascinating.
Poor Lucky has never had "good feet" - he finds it uncomfortable being shod and is often foot sore afterwards, so my farrier takes almost no toe off, and he now has very light shoes on to reduce the breaking of the hoof wall. He often has abscesses, and is foot sore on stones. The thinking at the moment, mostly from the wonderful McTimoney lady, is that way back he had severe laminitis, and he is now starting to have degenerative changes as a result. It would also explain why he gets "footie" if he has lush grass, and also his pattern of bronking in the spring could be a result of the grass affecting the blood flow in his already damaged foot ..... all speculation at the moment, but certainly a possible train of thought.
I will keep you posted, and meanwhile will enjoy reading your links.
Thanks Dawn,
Best wishes, Sarah. xx

Hi Sarah,
I am so sorry to hear Lucky is not "right" and am definitely sending positive vibes. I remember when he got laminitis before and how very worrying that time was. I do hope they manage to pinpoint the issue (or group of issues, I am learning that sometimes it's a case of dominoes) and that it's something that is easily treated and/or sorted.
Best wishes and hugs to you all,
Helen xx

Hi Sarah,
Poor Lucky who is not so lucky with sore feet. Hoping an accurate diagnosis is found so you can plan for his future.

Today is the day ..... Lucky is such an amazing pony, he hasn't travelled in over a year, and he marched straight into the trailer and travelled as quiet as a mouse. He looked as bright as a button when I dropped him off, and settled straight away into his new stable. I got back with the empty trailer, and his best buddy Eddie took up position next to it, gazing intently at it, shouting his head off for Lucky - nearly broke my heart. So, now its a waiting game ....

A quick update if anyone is interested.
Lucky is now home again, but as expected, the tests were inconclusive, so I have to take him back in next week for a bone scan, and he has to stay in for 5 days as he will be radioactive!
At least it will show all his hot spots, without numerous injections for nerve blocks.
He is guzzling on some lush grass as a treat, and Eddie is desperate to give him a welcome home wither scratch. ;D
Hope he will come right, he is such a special, brave pony.

Hi Sarah,
Thank you for the update, I was wondering how you got on. So Lucky is going to be a glow-in-the-dark-Lucky-pony! You'll miss him while he's away but it will be worth it to have either an answer or a whole lot more ruled-out.
Does this mean you can make the party?
Helen x

Well, here we go again......
I had to give Lucky another lunge this morning, as per vets instructions, and managed to do it before it got too hot.
Then I gave Lucky a lovely bath, and he enjoyed the cool hose on him.
Then I turned him out on some lovely lush grass, as he is going to be shut in an isolation stable for the next 5 days poor boy.
I am taking him in now, bone scan tomorrow ...... not sure when the vets will call and let me know what they have found. Then hopefully I can collect him on Monday once he has stopped being radioactive.
I have all my bendy crossed that he is going to be just fine, and enjoying our hacks on The Forest again soon.
Will keep you all posted ....
Sarah. xx

Thank you Jane, it was really strange only making up 3 buckets at tea time, and poor Eddie is moping round his field crying for him. Still, hopefully we will soon know exactly what has been making him so sore, and hopefully put it right. Off to have a good late night swim to take my mind off things for a bit ..... and to help me cool down! Thanks again, Sarah. xx
