As you all probably already know, I don't have my own horse so have not road-tested anything myself. However, I have been doing quite a lot of advance research and came across these rugs last year. I had thought that, if and when I do get my pony, I would definitely buy one of these for emergency use:- www.intelligenthorsecare.co.uk/coolheat-rugsI first saw them on Cynthia Cooper's website and then found there is a UK distributor. They apparently bought three for their own horses and were so impressed with them that they asked to be the UK distributor. I would love to know if anyone has tried them and what they think of them. Having read all the posts about rugs being required (in August!), I wondered whether anyone had tried these CoolHeat rugs? I always said I would get one if I ever had my own horse/pony because they seem to be so useful for exactly these conditions, where you don't want horses to overheat but you do want to protect them from persistent heavy rain.
I love the idea of the horse wearing its own "tent" and, of course, it allows the hair to become erect, which provides the necessary insulation underneath the rug.
The only thing I'm not sure of is how easy the fabric is to repair if it does become damaged.
