Hi All
Ebony has been at our new home for a few weeks now and has been so much fun and so safe sensible and basically a joy to be round,, So it was with much excitement that Maisie's (Puzzle) stable has been finished and she finally arrived last night to join us..
I have to say she was amazing from the onset because she has not been anywhere other than the odd walk or bit of ground work for a year and yet I took her out of her field away from her only companion and without any hesitation she walked straight onto the Lorry..
We arrived at our destination and she unloaded quietly although with her head at about 18.3 height!! Into her stable and she settled to eating her hay.. Ebony was not interested in any way at all and didnt come away from her hay for at least an hour to say hello and when she did she squealed and rebuffed all efforts by Maisie to make friends!
This morning was the proper beginning to our trainig journey so start as we mean to go on rang in my head like a mantra.. Head collers on and doors open.. Ebony who is a true pro stood eyes half closed knowing that she doesnt walk out until told.. Maisie seeing the door open assumed of course we just bowl through it.. however she is extrodinarily polite and looked genuinely surprised when made to step back and told to stand. she made a half hearted step forward again but then realised that waiting is the order of the day... good girl
Of we set up the road to the field Ebony in front showing off her MSC skills slow and steady walking obediently behind Lottie on a very loose rope... Maisie on the other hand was rather confused as to why marching forward with gusto alongside and in front of me if possible was not what I wanted.. again I am very lucky because she is not domineering in any way and once I made it clear that behind was where she stays she settled albeit still a little close but I was content with that.. Rome was not built in a day..With her there is a definate balance that needs to be struck because the spirit that has risen in her is wonderful to see and I dont want to squash it but equally I dont want to let it be a reason for ignoring boundaries that I wish to set..
I have to tell you I accidently got Lottie up at 5.15 this morning to turn them out as I miss read the clock and thought it was 6.15! oops excitement clearly had got the better of me..
This evening was another training session although I did absolutely nothing as such... there are only the two of them ( Jeans 3 are in a differnet field and part of the yard) and I really want them both to be independant of each other so I can leave one at home or in the field while working the other... I cant think of anything worse than having a horse your riding calling for the other while the other one at home is tearing round its stable also calling out..
So after we brought them in Lottie tacked up at went out for a hack.. Well Maisie called and called and called she grew over the door by about 3 hands and snorted in the air for good measure... Ebony sauntered off ears pricked ignoring all Maisie's attempts to bring her back.. I completely ignored her and got on with other jobs some on the yard some in the house and eventually Maisie's true chilled nature shone through and she just stood in the middle of her stable .. every so often a horse would hack by and she called again but very quickly she settled back to waiting..
Lottie reported that Ebony was awesome.. apparently a couple of adults came flying past her on their horses apologising because there horses always get stupid on the way home and they have to let them because if they dont one of them rears! Lottie was so proud because they did make Ebony jump a little but a stroke and a quiet word and Ebony ignored them and their madness..
So all in all a good start all round..... this is all we will be concentrating on untill Maisie is settled into the routine of things .. I am really happy because the truth is she is really independant already she just lacks a little confidence... I love my pony
Will post pics soon as I find the camera which is in an unpacked box some where x xx x x
