Hi, I will be taking on a Greek type Horse in a couple of weeks...he is scared stiff but NOT spooky! He has been ridden and is trained, but not ridden for quite a while. My Instructor rode him when she first went to check him out...he was a bit 'bucky' but only little bucks!! I need to know how I can build his confidence slowly and get him to trust me! I already have a young Greek Horse here at home, he is currently being trained but won't be ridden for another year or so...he's only 2. I'm going to keep them separated for the fist few days, until Hermes has settled in...then I hope they will live together ok. Yannos my youngster hasn't been gelded yet! They came today to do him but his little nuts haven't dropped yet! Hermes is already gelded. Thanks in advance! I should add they will be here at home and I will see them every day!! I should also add that Hermes is between 10 to 12 yrs old!

Hi Jinx, congratulations on your new horse and welcome to the forum. You say he's been trained but is scared stiff and bucks a bit which may mean he's been forced rather than sympathetically educated and may well have undiagnosed pain. Treating him kindly with patience and consistency in all you do will help him learn to trust you, especially if you incorporate groundwork exercises into your routine. Good luck with getting to know your horse and let us know how it is going.

Thank you, I will, you never know how someone else has really treated them...any animal ownership here seems to be beat it into submission, tie the legs together if it tries to run away...sadly it's not a great place for animals xxx
