If anyone is interested Vanessa Bee and Perry Wood will be doing demos at the North Devon Equine Fair on Sunday 22nd November. Vanessa will be going mainly groundwork and Perry will be demonstarting his natural and classical riding. Perry is amazing to watch and listen to, so come along and meet them both. There will also be a demo by Mendip Stud (western riding) and also a Shire horse demo, showing that they are not just a working horse but also make a great ridden horse.
If anyone wants more details let me knpw

Hi Twitel,
Thank you very much for this information. Funny how it so fits in with so many threads on this site!
I would definitely be interested in more information - is there a web site?

Hi, Twitel Whereabouts is this? I'm reasonably close to North Devon and have seen both these people in action before. I love watching Perry Wood - he's an extraordinarily talented man with horses, writing and music. I wonder if the Mendip Stud will bring Copy, who Monty Roberts rode recently I'm also going the the Equine Fair at Westpoint, Exeter on 5th December with a friend who is primarily interested in the stallion parade.

Are you a stallholder, twitel? I'll try to come along but I'm currently caring for an old Mum with Alzheimers. She has been in hospital for the last 10 days but may be home by then, It will depend on whether her weekend carers can cope with her - I care for her during the week but try to have weekends off!
We've had a tough few weeks - I had pneumonia, Mum went into care whilst I recovered and again when I took a few days away in Spain. Sadly, she had 3 falls when I was away. When I got back I had a few messages on my answer phone from the care home. I rang them to say I'd pick her up at 11.30a.m. and they said she couldn't stand and she ought to go to hospital, sooner rather than later. I asked why they hadn't called an ambulance - they said they thought I could take her as I was coming to pick her up. I asked how she would get into my car, They said I could borrow a wheelchair and then get one from A&E to get into the hospital. They couldn't get her into my car so called a wheel chair taxi. The triage nurse was horrified when I told her what had happened and the A&E doc was furious and has reported the care home, as I have, too. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!
Mum has now been in hospital for 11 days but may be home by the weekend.

Oh Liz, how awful! I'm so glad the hospital has reported the care home (what a misnomer in this case!) too.
All the very best wishes to you and your mum. I do so hope she's well enough to come home soon

Sadly, I've been told that Mum will not be going home. I spoke to the ward sister and also the community matron and they tell me that they and the doctors consider he to be too frail to be safe at home and she will need 24 hour care. I told them I would do it with some help but they very nicely and gently advised me that there was no way I could cope with her for very long. There have been many tears shed this week. Mum is now being assessed and I'm hoping she will qualify for continuing care which is paid for by the NHS. However, Primary Care trusts are notoriously mean about funding care for dementia patients. That makes me very angry Gone off the thread here but there you go! Anyway, I sadly missed the Big Sheep Equine Fair mentioned above but a friend is taking me to the Equine Fair at the Devon County Showground next Saturday - we're looking at stallions and also her daughte in law works for a top showing person and may have a horse there in some qualifier for something or other - can't you tell showing just isn't my thing! I used to be quite interested in hunter classes when on the committee for the old West Country HIS show and sale for many years! (Hunter Improvement Society which changed it's name to the National Light Horse Breeding Society and is now known as SHB(GB) !!!)

Liz, Can you not get help from Macmillian and such like (Iain Rennie where I live)? My dad sadly died from cancer this year and without their help he could not have died with dignity from home. He did go into "respite care" in an NHS hospice but the treatment was awful. He went in walking and after 7 days was incontinent and wheelchair bound. My mother kept him at home after that time with fantastic help from the above charities which meant that he could die at home peacefully and in dignity. Dying is awful, but 100 times worse if not treated with respect. Thinking of you Liz, Erika & George

No, sadly not, Erika. Mum is a long way off dying, I should think and, although frail, is well medically - i.e. all her vital organs are in good shape (apart from the brain, that is ) If Mum should ever need hospice care there is a marvellous place very close to me. I really hope it never comes to that. Thank you so much for your kind thoughts.
