Hi Everyone, Just looking for some input, I have only recently joined this forum and reading all the replies you seem a really helpful and knowledgable bunch. Anyway my question is, if you have read my introduction you will know that I recently bought a horse that I am starting again. I am very interested in natural horsemanship and want to go this way with him, I want my horse to do the right thing because it's easier and he wants to, not because he was forced to do it. I was talking to a good horsey friend of mine about this and she has turned up this evening with piles of dvds, i.e. parelli 1+2 and clinton anderson, colt starting, ground work 1,2+3 and riding with confidence 1,2+3. So the thing I am interested in, to avoid my mind getting over loaded is has anyone looked at these training programmes and if so which do you prefer, the only one I have seen and heard of is parelli, but my friend swears by clinton says he is so much easier to follow, working through problems as well. She broke her horse following his methods and if I can only dream of getting my horse half as good as hers, i would be the happiest horse owner in the world.

Hi Mel and Tinker
As you will probly have read,, i am an avid follower of Parelli, and play with saf everywhere, with all sorts of things, such as the parelli ball, tarpulin sheets,, hoops etc,,,
I have never heard of Clinton Anderson, but if he follows natural horsemanship you could cherry pick,, perhaps,, bits from all of them,,
Making your idea become the horses idea definatley saves on any battles,, whichever you train....
Just remember that having a baby means taking things slowly and resisting the temptation to rush.. and if you pick up on confusion from the horse, rewind your training...,.
Good luck
Lisa and Saf

Hi Mel - just seen your post - I've watched a lot of both Parelli and Clinton Anderson and tried both - I have some of the Parelli DVD's but all of my Clinton 'experience' is from TV (Rural TV channel 279 on Sky). I would say that Clinton is more down to earth and, dare I say it, honest, in the way he uses and demonstrates natural methods - his methods don't seem too dissimillar to Parelli but he just seems more accessible and practical, with less of the hyp. The only thing that drives me made about Clinton is the way he pauses at the end of a sentence for the audience to add the last word - it drives me mad! But you can definitly use a 'mix' of methods!!! Cheers, Ange.
