Hi everyone, Just to let you know that George is much better. I have had barely any riding having only been out twice in 3 weeks. I went out yesterday, the first time in a fortnight, and managed to time it so we rode in driving hail and sleet for 90 minutes. It didn't worry George who was totally up for it and was striding out with great energy, trotting and cantering in a very relaxed manner. Despite getting absolutely soaked and cold it was a lovely ride and we both enjoyed it.
Wishing you all a very merry and snow free Christmas. Let's get riding, only a couple more days and it starts to get light again! Yipee!

Hi Erika,
So pleased to hear George is feeling so much better - although your post made me shiver at the thought of the driving hail and sleet!
I love that feeling when a horse who has off work is full of the joy of going out again, I remember it from my old girl.
Hope you manage to get lots of riding in over the Christmas break.
Helen

Hi Nellie, As you will see from my other post that George is very much better. Hubbie had a fab ride on him, I have to say that they do look very impressive together. I could fall in love with both of them all over again. George was really marching out looking very proud, bold and handsome, hubbie looked very "lord of the manor" riding with one hand resting on his thigh and the other on a loose long rein. Hi Erika,
I'm very pleased to hear that - and I love the picture of your husband and George. I would so love to be able to say the same about Akis and Mina one day ;D.
Best wishes for a fab, horsey 2012.

It will come Nellie, it will come. It has taken hubbie a long time to truly trust George, after all he is a big beast. George is also herd leader so is quite a forceful personality and is reluctant to forfeit his leadership to others. He can be very pushy in the field with the other horses if he has a grump on. Hubbie has learnt that he totally respects people and would never do a thing to harm them. Underneath all the bluster he is a big softy at heart even with the other horses. My friend's autistic daughter loves him to bits and cuddles him all the time. So, keep faith and you will get there. Erika & big cuddly George

Time moves on. It has been a really difficult year as my husband was suddenly diagnosed with a serious heart condition. He underwent open heart surgery at the beginning of Feb and is now well on the road to recovery. George has been absolutely fab during this time, having hardly been ridden and then having to put up with an emotional wreck on the odd occasion he has got out. Thankfully husband is now a lot better and had his first ride yesterday. George was his totally trustworthy self and was on his best behaviour. They had a great time.

Erika What a tough time you've had but great to hear hubby is on the mend. Mine had a pacemaker 18 months ago after passing out suddenly a few times (nothing too serious thankfully and luckily not whilst riding). But it certainly puts things into perspective doesn't it. Didn't have Coco then but I'm sure I would have found her a great friend!
Hope things continue to improve for your husband.

Erika,
So sorry to hear about your husband and i am so glad he is now on the mend. It must have been very worrying for you.
George must have been a great comfort for you, as you can be just yourself with your horse, like you say, an emotional wreck and hes just there for you.
Your husband sounds if he is going to enjoy riding, keep us posted, who know what he will be doing by the end of summer!!!
Happy hacking Jane and Elda xx

Hi Erika, So pleased to hear your husband is feeling so much better. Riding is, of course, the best possible convalescence activity .

Hi Nellie, Husband isn't only getting better but he is getting more horse savvy as well. Went for a little stroll down the paddock yesterday and the boys were horsing around, coming up to us and then rodeoing around the field. On the way back up the hill little Murphy insisted on getting between hubbie and George. Hubbie's comments were "seems I'm not one of the gang, the little bu**er is herding me away !".

How wonderful! I'm so hoping that Akis, little by little, will make the same journey. Sadly, now that Mina is no longer at DIY close to home, he doesn't have get so involved although today he did lead her into her stable and helped me to untack: every little step counts !
